3 Tips on Vacation Packing using Capsule Wardrobes!

Getting into vacation mode over here, and I thought I’d pop on to share a few tips and tricks when it comes to packing for vacation using a capsule wardrobe!  Below are some of the ways I fill my suitcase creatively for trips, and I hope this is helpful to you, too!

1 – Break the Capsule Rules…just a little.

I know, I know, what is she even saying?!  Hear me out!  The capsule wardrobe lifestyle is so super duper helpful on the daily [CLICK HERE for how I do mine!].  Having a small number of items that you love AND feel great wearing AND that all work together makes getting ready on the fly so easy!  Gone are the days of standing in your jam packed closet stuffed to the brim with all the trends and all the old pieces, putting your hand on your hip and muttering, “Well great.  I have nothing to wear.”  BEEN THERE MAN.  Switching to a capsule wardrobe lifestyle totally curates your closet down seasonally into ONLY items that you truly love, which takes the guess work out of a quick costume change in the mornings.

However, I view vacation as a way to vacate….all the things!  Of course I’ll use items from my capsule for vacation.  I’m not about to go purchase an entire new wardrobe just for one trip.  But a fun new dress….?  Sure!  Maybe a new pair of cute shoes?  Live a little!  It’s vacation, after all, so it’s kind of fun to change it up and #treatyoself a little bit after all that discipline of maintaining a capsule wardrobe.  Adding one or two fun new vacation pieces is such a treat, and it’s all in the name of FUN!

One of the reasons I started doing a modified version of the very strict capsule wardrobe process was that the legalistic rules sort of started to take the joy out of things for me.  For instance, real deal capsule wardrobers would probably say that I should have already accounted for a vacation within my seasonal wardrobe, and no extra purchases need to be made.  Meh.  To that I say, live a little, man!  You do you!  And I shall do me…in my new vacation dress.  😉

2 – Dip Into Your Other Seasonal Capsules

Sometimes when we go on trips, we might travel to a climate not exactly in line with the one in our own area, so if you find yourself needing warmer or cooler weather clothing all of a sudden, it’s so awesome to already have a seasonally curated capsule built and stowed away that you can readily comb through to fill in the gaps for packing!  You already know you love those out-of-season items, they already all go together and work, so just dip into the stowed away capsules for your vacation and you’re good to go!

3 – Try Restyling for a Fresh Vacay Look

Now is the time to restyle your current capsule items to spice up your vacation looks while still utilizing the same pieces from your curated closet!  Try tying the front of a button down instead of buttoning, pairing together items that you might normally overlook, knotting the bottom of a long maxi for a beachy vibe, or layering up your standard looks with fresh jewelry or accessory combos.  We are vacating real life, right?  No better time to play and mix things up!  Might find some new style or combination that totally breathes life into your curated capsule wardrobe while you’re at it!

And with that, I’m off to finish packing for our trip…be sure to tag along for an inside look over on my Instagram feed + stories!  We’re heading to one of my very favorite places to take the family, and it’s my kind of “rustic”….glam-rustic, ha!  Follow along with us this week!  Happy packing, buddies!
