Back to School Basics that Won’t Break the Budget!

, , , ,

Currently having all the feelings about my kiddos heading back to school in just a handful of days, and, even though they technically only attend school away from home two days a week, the laidback summer vibes are slowing going by the wayside to be replaced with structure and routine. And those other three days of the school week? Yup. I’M their teacher! (And my hubby, too.) Back to school for us, too! So yeah, all the feels. 😩/🤗

Ready or not, it’s time to start thinking towards the shifting of the season, and I rounded up some back to school basics that won’t break your budget, especially if you’ve got a big family like we do! (And if Littlest wants to pretend like she’s going back to school like her sisters and “needs” a backpack, too. 😉) Here are few cuties the girls and I found from Walmart, *our sponsor for this post!

Switching out and decorating our little hallway DIY “mudroom” has become something of a tradition for my girls, and I like to make the change from school to summer and back again a fun yet budget-friendly experience! Now that school season is upon us, the girls chose these $14 stylin’ 5 piece backpack sets along with new rain boots and sneakers to start the year out right! (Two out of three of my school-age kiddos are always a bit anxious at seasonal transitions like this, so I’ve found it helps to start talking about it early and to try and get them as involved as I can to ease excited nerves. 😉)

On actual school days, the girlies wear uniforms, but we had to SOMEthing cute and sweet for a back to school outfit, right? Of course we did! 😉 They love matching and coordinating with their sisters, so I let them buddy up and choose dresses together, and these sweet little $6 play dresses for big sisters and little sisters were their choice! Style AND budget-conscious kids…I like it. 😉

Now that backpacks and second day of school 😉 outfits have been chosen, it’s time to SOAK UP these last days of summer break. Anyone else feel like it flew by?!? Send me all the coffee vibes as I gear up to resume my other part time gig of hybrid homeschooling. Does this mean Mommy should get a fresh back to school outfit, too….? I’m going to go with yes.

They’ll be the cutest back-to-schoolers around!

This is precious!! And I love the words above the bench, but what is the first word?

Do you have a tutorial on your mudroom? I am specifically interested in the shelves/benches on the bottom. They appear to be narrow which makes this great for any wall!

I’d love to know your dimensions too, love that it looks narrower! Did you diy the show bins on the bottom with the wire? If yea, please share details or where you got them from.

The sentence on the wall says Always Come Home

Love your site! Can you please tell me what paint color you chose for the mud room? Just beautiful!
