Favorite French Toast and Gluten-free option, too!

, , , ,

Our family’s favorite breakfast is French toast, and every time I share Instagram stories of us making it, I’m asked for the recipe…which I’ve never written down! Until today! My kiddos helped me figure out our measurements for our fam’s fave morning treat, so here it is for y’all to enjoy, too!

You can use any bread you’d like, but we prefer to start with cinnamon raisin bread from Trader Joe’s [more of our faves from Trader Joe’s HERE], but you can use any bread you’d like. We start with a loaf of gluten free cinnamon raisin bread for my GF girls, and then we use this delish loaf for the rest of us:

Add all ingredients listed on my kiddo’s sticky note recipe she wrote for me this morning😉, and if you’ve never added orange zest to the mix, ’tis life changing. YUMMO!! These measurements serve roughly 6 give or take, but adjust to your fam, of course. We prefer light vanilla almond milk over dairy, and you can never have enough vanilla and cinnamon. The sugar is added mainly to help crisp up the outside of the toast, so feel free to leave that out if you don’t want added sweetness.

Warm griddle to medium heat, coat with butter (YUM) and then let the toast brown up and crisp up on each side for about, oh, maybe 3-5 minutes each give or take depending on how dark you like your toast.

We like to top ours with chopped berries and nuts, a light sprinkle of “snow” (powdered sugar) and just a tiny bit of syrup since it’s already pretty sweet. It’s a crowd pleaser, for sure, and the gluten free options is equally delish!

Lest we think I’m up early cooking amazing homemade breakfasts daily for my family….nope. 😂 To be honest, many mornings the girls just help themselves to cereal and yogurt while Mommy tries to drag herself out of bed and into some sort of conscious state. 😴 BUT! On the weekends or special occasions, our fam loves a big breakfast together, and our favorite french toast is usually the top request! What’s your favorite breakfast? Are you a savory family or do y’all prefer sweet? Happy breakfasting, friends!

“Serves six,” but approximately how many pieces of toast does that translate to? There are only two of this and your recipe is blessedly easy to tweak down, but I’m wondering whether I need to plan to freeze some of this loaf after Saturday! So excited to give it a whirl, Erin! <3

I have celiac too, but I’ve never seen GF raisin bread. What GF Raisin Bread do you use and where do you buy it?

Made this French toast this morning and it was AWESOME!!! The orange really brightens the flavor, and I loved the strawberries on it! One of our new favorite weekend breakfast recipes! Thanks for sharing! 💗
