Modern Minimalist Design Ideas

,

Hi friends! Thought I’d share some ideas I’ve got running through my head for the new house. Trying not to rush things just to fill it up so I can take a pretty picture for Instagram. Isn’t that kind of a weird thing to even think about? Our social media-driven life can be so weird sometimes, and it feels good to go against the pressure to be perfect and finished and all put together all the time. I want to live here and let the house breathe and kind of feel the vibe for my family before rushing into purchases, and it’s pretty fun to put together modern minimalist design ideas for the new place. Guided by the (beautiful) design choices from the builder/designer already in place here, I’m feeling simple lines, a color palette of dark charcoal, creamy white and almond mixed with cognac leather, natural wood tones and a touch of gold or brass. We brought our dining table and chairs (although those are horribly torn up from the cats…why I thought sisal seats were a good idea…😑) and then we already purchased two sofas bc I for sure knew I loved them. Here are some other items I’m thinking about!

What do you guys think? It’s been so fun to change up my style and “try on” some new vibes for size, and while I’m not totally sure what our home’s look will be in the end, it’s a creative outlet to dream and plan and research. What’s your home’s style? Do you (like me) feel that you don’t have to stay in exactly one genre or design category, or do you tend to stay the course? I love mixing and matching and not following rules. Call me a rebel. 😉 Here are a few other home decorating design boards for mudrooms and front porch inspo!

Absolutely loving your new vibe on decor! We moved to the mountains of NC 2 years ago..built a small log cabin and I decided this was my time to change things up! Used to love farmhouse! Still do, but going with the boho modern now and loving every inch of it! I am so going to love watching you take your time in decorating your beautiful new home. Less is more is what I say all the time. 💛

I love that this is stretching you. I am curious – part of the house is 100 years old so do you feel any sense of mixing in some pieces that would’ve existed when the house was built? We lived in our house for several months before we even contemplated window treatments or paint. Really needed the house to speak to us and our lives in it. What works as decor in a house for one family may not be the appropriate decor for another. Excited to see what you come up with. It will be fabulous I am sure!

I love your inspo so far! Can we call it mid-century farmhouse? I’m more like you where I know what I like and I’m not bound to a certain style/label when it comes to home decor.
