Growing up, my Mom always had an affinity for pops of red. I don’t know if it’s because our last name is/was Hart, but we always knew my Mom would love anything we bought for her that was red in hue: nail polish, cozy house slippers, kitchen things. It was and is her signature color! My favorite area of her house has a rich red accent wall that always looks so cheery and so…her. I think her love of red has made it’s way into my own home through our family’s Christmas decor!

Red ornaments and holly sprigs in the trees, bright Christmasy pillows, a tree skirt handmade for me by my step-grandmother. I don’t normally decorate with much red throughout the year, but it sure makes me smile around Christmastime to pull out all of my little pops of happy!

For a few years, I thought that using these touches of red that reminded me of my Mom wouldn’t be “cool” or “on trend” in the very-neutral-loving farmhouse community…and then I rolled my eyes at myself, pulled out all my favorite red pieces and decided how silly I was being to tuck that away! Who cares? And…I love it! Reminds me of my Mom, makes me smile, and my kids ask for red Christmas decor EVERY year, so what was I thinkin?? 😉

This year, I added a few new pops of Christmas red in the form of pillows and a new (inexpensive!) throw from Walmart (linked below). You can’t beat the prices of these throw pillows, AND they come with the insert included! Cable knit, plaid, looped and fair aisle, they are all adorable. Go, Walmart. 🙌🏼

So how about you? Do you decorate with much color during the year and/or during the holidays? How silly was I to care what social media would think if I used, GASP…red Christmas decor?? 😂 It’s okay. I already know that answer. 😉

Yes on red! I do what makes the kids happy! You won’t even believe this; we have an African tree! It’s black! We live in Florida and we have annual passes to Busch Gardens and we loved their black trees last year so I surprised the kids and I bought one. I had so much fun picking out all the animal ornaments. All the animals are from Africa. I also use lots of gold ornaments
and feathers. Busch Gardens gave me that idea! We love it!
