Summer Capsule Wardrobe Ideas!

Hey, friends! Stopped to shop some summer styles, and I thought I’d post a few simple mom-friendly summer outfit ideas! Y’all know I follow a capsule-style wardrobe, and it sure makes getting ready in the morning fast and easy when your closet is ONLY full of items you absolutely love, know you feel beautiful wearing and that coordinate easily together! If you are a fellow capsule gal or have thought about trying it, here is a simple and small sample capsule to give you an idea behind preparing one from your own closet.

You DEF do not need to go out and buy all new items to try a capsule wardrobe – quite the opposite, actually! This is just a fun way to include my buddies who aren’t interested in capsules but like fun in-store try-on sessions (like I do!), so see below for a few fun finds from today’s outing!

A simple way to curate a capsule wardrobe either from your own closet or while out shopping is to start with a solid foundation of basics and classics (think: your favorite style of jeans, a simple white tee, classic sandals), and then chose a color/pattern or two that you’d like to weave into that season’s capsule in order to keep it fun, interesting and coordinating! Getting ready will go so quickly with a little work on the front end…promise!

For this sample capsule, I started with basic classics: denim skirt and jacket, boyfriend jeans, white linen pants, cognac sandals, white tee, etc), and then I went for a few fun, coordinating colors and patterns (rust and mustard yellow). You can choose any colors that you love – it doesn’t have to be my colors! And if you are a pattern lover, throw a few pieces in there with patterns that will keep the capsule wardrobe interesting as you create outfits you love with fewer pieces all summer long!

FOR SIZING REFERENCE:
I’m a little over 5’8″ and wear a 4 in pants at this store and a Small in tops, usually.

Combo One: Jumpsuit + Denim

Loving this rust color even into the summer, and you can’t beat a linen-vibes jumpsuit for warm weather days…especially if you are a shorts-loather like me. 😉

Jumpsuit: wearing my size Small
Denim jacket: boyfriend fit in Small

Combo Two: Denim, Rust + Stripes

I put these three pics next to each other to show how many outfits can be made from just a few items, and there are few more combos that could be made out of the above, too! Capsules are all about mixing, matching and not overdoing it on stuffing our closets full of pieces we don’t ACTUALLY love. When you love a certain item and feel confident wearing it, you’ll reach for it more, negating the need to have sooooo many extras in your closet.

Striped shirt: sized up to a Medium (so soft!)
Slim boyfriend denim: wearing my size 4
Denim skirt: wearing my size 4 (this came home with me!)
Rust button tee: wearing a M

Combo Three: Linen, Denim + Rust

Easy summer vibes! Nothing says summer like white linen, and I personally love the cut of these pants (I have them in the rust color). I like that they aren’t reading “pajama pant” since they are a bit tapered and cropped, and for a white pant, they aren’t terribly see-through. Take off the denim jacket when it gets too warm, and the rust + linen still works for an alternate summer capsule look!

Linen pants: wearing my size 4
Rust tee: wearing M
Denim jacket: wearing S

Combo Four: Mustard + Denim

Another way to get around wearing shorts in the summer? A flowy linen dress! (Can you tell I don’t love shorts…? 😉) This one is a pretty mustard-y color, and because of that, it will transition well from summer into fall, I think.

Dress: wearing S (maybe could have sized down, but they didn’t have XS for me to try. If between sizes, maybe go down one. It was big in the chest for me…although there’s not much to write home about for me up in that region anyway. 😉)

Hope these capsule try-ons are helpful whether you are just looking for some summer mom-style ideas or if you are working on your own seasonal capsule! Happy summer-ing, my friends!

Love your capsules. Just shared with my daughters to help with their closets. One thing I find interesting…I am a brunette (maybe more ashy) with blue eyes…and could never wear gold or rust and it looks so nice on you.

Loving the color scheme! I’m really into the jumpsuits and wide leg pants right now; so comfy. We have to endure rough heat and humidity in Florida and these help!

  9. Hey dear, Thanks a lot for sharing such great stuff. I have got some excellent ideas in your post. Actually, to me, A printed wrap dress is the perfect foundation for an effortless summer look. Change up the look with your accessories—whether switching between sunglasses or summer bags and sandals. How do you think about this?
