We recently painted the exterior of our brick home to make it feel more like “us,” and we also added cedar shutters. See the finished exterior HERE! Once we did that, our very dark (and very weathered) wood front door no longer went with the exterior of the house. Instead of spending additional money to replace it, I decided to try painting it first…and I LOVE IT! Here’s what we for today’s project: painting the front door!
1 – taped off the glass window panes (took foreverrrrr) and hardware
2 – sanded down the wood to remove top layer
3 – sampled some colors (didn’t choose any of these, ha!)
4 – primed the door to seal in the stain so it wouldn’t seep through the paint
5 – removed the storm door
6 – tested MORE paint colors 🙈
Voila! (And peek-a-boo….😉). The color we went with is called Soothing Stream by Behr, and it’s a light minty green/blue that matched my outdoor cushion I was using for inspo just perfectly! Only later did it dawn on me that I could have simply had the paint store color match the cushion for me…DUH ERIN. 😂 Oh well, painting the front door is done now and I love it! The plants won’t stay there, but I thought it was cute for the picture. Not so cute? Seeing up my children’s noses, but what’s a Mom to do?
